About My Photos
Like many people, I took more and more photos as my kids were growing up. The sports they played, the performances they were in, were all a wonder to me and to my family and friends. I still take photos of grand nieces and nephews, and I can't wait until my own grandkids are old enough to kick a ball or slap a hockey puck.
Along the way I developed a strong interest in theater photography. It is something that is difficult to do well. The lighting can be bright and dark and change across the stage. There are shadows, silhouettes, and colors that mean something. People move, gesture, dance, and fight in that light. Unlike film, the lighting director plays to the human eye not to the camera. Composition has to be quick, before arms move, faces turn, lighting or sets change, and it goes away. And there is more of course.
I love watching a show through a lens and I try to capture images that people who act, direct, and create lighting, costumes, and sets will enjoy. I want them to share my photos with others who enjoy their work as much as I do.
I normally stand in the back of the theater and use mirrorless cameras on silent shutter. This allows me to take all my photos during final dress or an actual production.
I also enjoy sports photography as you can see from my collections. Hockey is a current interest.
My 2021 fee for a theater production is $475 plus travel outside Hartford County, CT. My photos are then free to download for personal non-commercial use only. It is OK for cast and other production members to use them to promote their own work.
Check with me for information on hockey and other sports.
